Chinchou Pattern

Notes:
I offer this pattern for free and I only ask for two things in return.  1)  Please do not sell the pattern, or the product of this pattern, and 2) I would love if you shared with me a picture of what you made.
Chinchou can be worked in the continuous spiral, or by joining rounds.  I worked him in spiral.  Also, I used Red Heart: Super Saver yarn. This pattern has not yet been tested so there may be some mistakes. If you find one please tell me so that I can fix it.

Materials:
·         Light blue, medium blue,  yellow and black yarn
·         Polyfil
·         G-hook
·         Tapestry needle

Stitches:
·         SC           Single Crochet
·         Dec        Decrease
·         FO          Finish Off

Eyes (Make 2):
Use yellow yarn
Round 1 – 6 SC in the magic ring (6)
Round 2 – 2 SC in each stitch all the way around (12)
Finish off and leave long tail for sewing.

Fins (Make 2):
Use light blue yarn
Round 1  –    6 SC in the magic ring (6)
Round 2  –    2 SC in each stitch around (12)
Round 3  –    2 SC crochet in the first stitch, SC in the next stitch. Repeat around (18)
Round 4  –    SC in each stitch around (18)
Round 5  –    Dec in the first 2 stitches, SC in next 4 stitches. Repeat around.  (15)
Round 6  –    SC in each stitch around (15)
Round 7  –    Dec in the first 2 stitches, SC in next 3 stitches. Repeat around.  (12)
Round 8  –    SC in each stitch around (12)
Round 9  –    Dec in the first 2 stitches, SC in next 2 stitches. Repeat around.  (9)
Finish off and leave long tail for sewing.



Feet (Make 2)
Use medium blue yarn
Round 1  –    6 SC in the magic ring (6)
Round 2  –    2 SC in each stitch around (12)
Round 3  –    SC in each stitch around (12)
Round 4  –    SC in each stitch around (12)
Round 5  –    SC in each stitch around (12)
Round 6  –    SC in each stitch around (12)
Round 7  –    SC in each stitch around (12)
Round 8  –    Dec over 2 stitches.  Repeat around (6)
Finish off and leave long tail for sewing.

Antenna (Make 2):
Use yellow yarn
Round 1  –    6 SC in the magic ring (6)
Round 2  –    2 SC in each stitch around (12)
Round 3  –    2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the next stitch. Repeat around (18)
Round 4  –    2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the 2 next stitches.  Repeat around (24)
Round 5  –    2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the 6 next stitches.  Repeat around (28)
Round 6  –    SC in each stitch around (28)
Round 7  –    SC in each stitch around (28)
Round 8  –    SC in each stitch around (28)
Round 9  –    SC in each stitch around (28)
Round 10  –  Dec in the first 2 stitches, SC in the next 5 stitches. Repeat around (24)
Round 11  –  Dec in the first 2 stitches, SC in the next 4 stitches. Repeat around (20)
Round 12  –  SC in each stitch around (20)
Round 13  – Dec in the first 2 stitches, SC in the next 3 stitches. Repeat around (16)
Round 14  –  SC in each stitch around (16)
Round 15  – Dec in the first 2 stitches, SC in the next 2 stitches. Repeat around (12)
Round 16  –  SC in each stitch around (12)
Round 17  – Dec in the first 2 stitches, SC in the next 2 stitches. Repeat around (8)
Round 18  –  SC in each stitch around (8)
Round 19  – Dec in the first 2 stitches, SC in the next 2 stitches. Repeat around (6)
*Stuff the “bulb” with Polyfil and then switch to medium blue yarn.
Round 20  –  SC in each stitch around (6)
Repeat Round 20 until your antenna is the desired length.  I ended up adding 45 rounds of blue onto the antenna.  Finish off and leave long tail for sewing.

Body:
Use medium blue yarn
Round 21  – 6 SC in the magic ring (6)
Round 22  – 2 SC in each stitch around (12)
Round 23  – 2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the next stitch. Repeat around (18)
Round 24  – 2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the 2 next stitches.  Repeat around (24)
Round 25  – 2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the 3 next stitches. Repeat around (30)
Round 26  – 2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the 4 next stitches. Repeat around (36)
Round 27  – 2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the 5 next stitches. Repeat around (42)
Round 28  – 2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the 6 next stitches. Repeat around (48)
Round 29  – 2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the 7 next stitches. Repeat around (54)
Round 30  –  2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the 8 next stitches. Repeat around (60)
Round 31  –  2 SC in the first stitch, SC in the 9 next stitches. Repeat around (66)
Round 32  –   SC in each stitch around (66)

*At this point I started stuffing Chinchou with Polyfil.
Round 46  –   Dec in the first 2 stitches, SC in the next 3 stitches. Repeat around (24)
Round 47  –   Dec in the first 2 stitches, SC in the next 2 stitches. Repeat around (18)
Round 48  –   Dec in the first 2 stitches, SC in the next stitch. Repeat around (12)
Round 49  –   Dec over 2 stitches.  Repeat around (6)
Finish off and weave in ends.

Assembly:
Chinchou is fairly simple to put together, just use the picture as a guide.  I wasn’t sure about the placement of the antennae, but I sewed them on as if they were Chinchou’s tail.  Using black yarn I embroidered little “pluses” into Chinchou’s eyes, and then gave him a smile.

  1. Did you stuff the antenna with polyfill as well or did you leave them empty, sorry if this is a noobie question, but this is going to be my first amigurumi (after making a few practice ones)

    1. I only stuffed the yellow portion of the antennae with polyfil, the blue parts were left empty.
