Morpheus Chupacabra

I had a Sculpy day with my friend Audrey and we made chupacabras together.  It was great.  Also, I took pictures in a place that wasn't my back yard!

Recently I redesigned one of my characters—Morpheus—and since she was on my mind I decided to make her into a chupacabra.  Her main colors are purples and golds.  For her horns I gave her curly little swirls based off of the crown she wears.  Morpheus also has tiny little wings on her ankles, so of course her cabra gets those as well.  I almost forgot to add them.

Those bigger wings though...  Wings always give me trouble, no matter what media I work with... though in 3D media more-so than 2D.  Morpheus wears some kine of weird feathered cloak covered in stars.  I didn't get quite the effect I wanted with the blues, but it still looks nice.

This chupa is definitely an improvement on my last figurines as she can actually stand on two legs.  Though her tail does act as a third point of contact, it wasn't needed.  Another improvement is that she has fingers and toes.  Oh. And wings.  Also, she gets cute little paw pads—on her feet and hands.

Here's the full set, Audrey made the blue cabra (Razul-cabra) as well as the zebra striped cabra.

Colorful Dragon Amigurumi

I was going to title this post Rainbow Dragon, but there's a DragonVale dragon by that name and I didn't want any confusion there.

Pattern here. This was a fun little guy to work, and really very easy.  At first I tried it with one of my random fluffy yarns but it was too difficult to work with so I switched to the normal kind.  I ended up changing the spines on the back a little bit, to give them an extra little point!

At first I think her tail curled up a bit, but when I added the spines it flattened out and I was a bit sad about it.  But she's still very cute!

Flying Whale Amigurumi

Here's another case of making something just because it's cute.

The pattern is pretty simple, but when I got to the little whale tail I was very confused as to what I was supposed to do.  In the end I just kind of made something up.

Hippogriff Amigurumi

I've still got quite a few crochets from the week before last to post... it was a productive week.

Today we have a hippogriff from this pattern.  I'm not entirely sure how I found the pattern, but it was in my queue so I went for it.  Originally I had intended to use grays, but as it turned out I didn't have much gray yarn left in my stash.  In the end I decided to instead use brighter colors and came out with a cute foxy hippogriff.

The pattern was pretty good, I only found a few mistakes in it, though I don't remember where.  I think they were just a few stitches that I thought should be changed, not even mistakes at all.  The ears I crocheted with two strands of yarn which I think was a good idea because they stand straight instead of curling.

Also, I used my own design for the wings.  That's about all.

Erlenmeyer Flask Amigurumi

Sometimes I make stuff just because it's cute. This is one of those times.

Found the pattern here.  Luckily my sister has a chem major friend so this little guy already has a home to look forward to!

Seahorse Amigurumi

I've had this lovely blue yarn I got in a trade with one of my friends, but haven't gotten to use it until recently!

It really is just the prettiest shade of blue.  It made for a nice Seahorse from this pattern.

I'm running out of places in my backyard to take pictures.  I need to find a new location.

Armadillo Amigurumi

Continuing with my Ravelry queue... have an armadillo.

The pattern is only available on Ravelry (as far as I know at least.)  It's worked in mostly in HDC which was a surprising change, but nice since the crocheting went faster.

I changed the pattern up when I was knitting his feet.  For some reason I can never get the "puff" stitch to look any good so I resorted to formatting my regular method of toes.  I also reversed one of the ears so that they mirrored each other.

Yes.  This is the main reason I made this guy.  So that I  could roll him up into a ball.  He looks like a little pill bug!

I named him Tom Bombadillo. Sice I'm reading Lord of the Rings...

Mushroom Amigurumi

I like mushrooms, they're delicious. And cute.

I'm just going through my Ravelry queue right now and these knitted mushrooms popped up.  The pattern is simple and worked in one piece so you don't have to sew anything together.  I though that was pretty neat.

At first I used my smaller needles, I think they're a size 3.  This ended up with a tiny mushroom.  Then I decided to go ahead and make another mushroom with my size 7 needles.

I ended up with a button mushroom and a cremini mushroom. Ehehehe.

Bat Amigurumi

Did I mention I like bats?  Because they're pretty dang cool.

I found a really cute pattern for this bat.  It was really simple and turned out just adorable. Plus, I really like the wings.

I only tweaked the pattern a little bit, and that was just by curling the ears before I attached them.  Also, I added hooks to her feet so that they connect and she can hang from things.

Like a true bat!

Sonic Dragon Amigurumi

Recently I read Suzanne Collin's Underlander series, and it's given me a love for bats.  Combine that with a love for dragons, and you have a bat-dragon.  Which, incidentally exists in DragonVale.  I present, the Sonic Dragon!

Again, I used a lot of the same parts fro previous dragons for this dragon so it was a breeze for the most part.  For her nose and tail "fin" I used this tiny heart pattern, in both the big and small version.

The only thing that gave me trouble was the ear "fins".  For those it just required a bit of patience.  I like how they turned out though, they look silly!  A good silly.  I really liked the eyelashes from the Sonic Dragon's design so I made sure to include them.

This'll probably be my last DragonVale dragon for a while, I've found some patterns I want to try.  I may come back to these when I make a dent in my queue.

Loki Amigurumi

I'm a sucker for super hero movies, and I'm a bit obsessed with Loki from Thor/Avengers.  This was inevitable, it was only a matter of time.

I looked through so many references in order to try and get him to be accurate, but I had to leave out quite a bit so he wouldn't be too cluttered.  I went with Loki's "Avenger" outfit.  There are so many little details. So. Many.  But even so, there's quite a bit missing, but overall I really like how it turned out. .

Loki took me a lot longer to finish then I expected, probably because of all the pieces that went into making him.  Probably also because... I had the hardest time with his vest/jacket.  It took many tries in order to get it to look how I wanted.

His arms and legs have pipe cleaners inside so they are semi-posable.  It looks like he's on a mission.

Fire Dragon Amigurumi

I'm on a crochet kick!  Got another cutie for y'all.

Still hooked on DragonVale.  (Get it, hooked, like... crochet hook!?) In my desperate effort to make a pair of wings that I could be proud of I decided to tackled another dragon.  I had a lot of red yarn so I went for the game's iconic fire dragon.

A lot of this is just recycled from the plant dragon, so making up the pattern wasn't hard at all.  In the game, the adult fire dragon had a bunch of teeth so i gave him little teeth and he seems happy about it.

Look at those wings!  I liked the wings I made for the plant dragon, but those are more feathery wings.  This little guy needed a pair of bat/dragon wings.  i think they turned out really well!

Plant Dragon Amigurumi

Well, I finished school and didn't exactly know what to do.  So I picked up the crochet hook.

So recently I started playing an iPod game called DragonVale and it is just the cutest thing ever.  There are so many little dragons with absolutely the cutest design.  It's adorable.  Since I had an excess of green yarn I went ahead and made the plant dragon from the game.

He doesn't stand on his own, but if you prop his tail against something he can manage it.  This guy was fun, I just kind of made up the design as I went.  Sometimes I tried to remember what I did on Toothless, but for the most part I did it on the fly.

Those wings.  Those wings were the hardest thing ever.  I kept trying to come up with a design but it never worked.  I had a couple of judges to help me decide on designs, and eventually I came up with what you see here!  They turned out lovely, it was worth working through a few designs...

Data Dragon

I keep meaning to post some of my older projects, but until now I've been forgetful.  However, today I'm bringing back one of my favorites! Data dragon.

I made this two summers ago.  My class-load was really heavy and when I finally got a break I decided to do something epic.  One of my friends had suggested a flash drive dragon, and I fell in love with the idea.

Man, this was an enormous undertaking.  I built her piece by piece and baked her one part at a time.  My favorite part is the external rib cage.  Definitely.  She's a fully functioning flash drive as well!  Though I don't think she's the kind you'd carry around with you, she'd probably break.

The lambda symbols are because they kind of look like a V and her name is Viral.

Little Charms - Set 2

Here's another batch of charms I did for Fusion.  I hope they sell.  So I have an excuse to make more. For myself.

This time I fixed the problem with the cracking paint.  I used my regular varnish on the charms first and then I dipped them in the new glaze and the paint didn't crack.  Yay, problem solving!

I made a shark in honor of my shark pants.  And also, because sharks are pretty cool.

The raven was requested by one of my friends when I was going through the sculpting phase.

The dinosaur is because I like dinosaurs.  They are rad.

We were watching Lady and the Tramp and so I had to make a Siamese cat.

Little Charms - Set 1

Another thing I've made for Fusion is little charms.  They're. Cute. I want to keep them all.

I bought a new "glaze" for them, since I'm about to run out of my current type.  I also wanted to try dipping the charms in it so that they would get full coverage and not have brush strokes.

The pudgy dragon turned out really well and accepted the glaze without problems.  I think it had something to do with the metallic paint.

The cheetah griffin was glazed last because I couldn't dip it.  Luckily this meant that the griffin escaped the crackle effects of the new glaze.  I just painted the old varnish on for this guy.

Sadly the fox got the new glaze and it caused the paint to crack when it dried.  You can't see the effect very well in the pictures.  He's still cute though.

Painted Stone Owls - Set 3

Oh man, third set of owl stones.  I'm burnt out on these things!  Probably won't be doing them for a while.

Somehow, all the tiniest of my rocks ended up in this batch.  They make fore very cute little owls.  I also ended up doing some different designs.

Little dark gold owl

Little light gold owl

Domino owl!  This one is my fave.

Some kind of garish pink owl.

Silver and black owl

Peppermint owl.

Purple owl
